Challenge

Construction methodology involved deep long trenches often on low volume roads. Clients preference was for the use of barriers however due to road constraints, these were often not able to be installed compliantly, posing additional risk to workers, as well as reducing the amount of work space affecting their productivity.

Solution

We worked closely with the client to educate their workforce and also developed a risk assessment to determine if the use of barrier is required and what positive safety measures they could employ when barriers were not present, as well as providing sound advice and designs when barriers were to be installed

Results

The project is ongoing and on course to be completed on programme. Defining the pros and cons of barrier use has increased productivity through less down time for barrier rearrangements on areas where they were assessed as not needed and have been installed compliantly where they are.
