Challenge

This project is one part of the overall City Rail Link Project - the largest construction project ever undertaken in New Zealand. This component required the construction of twin cut-and-cover tunnels under Albert St in Auckland's CBD, including traversing the busy Customs St Intersection. The challenge of major construction in New Zealand's busiest commercial area was very real.

Solution

Numerous solutions were employed to make this project a success from new pedestrian walkway pavement marking colours to specialist traffic management signage to innovative emergency services management solutions (in case of emergency). This project brought with it a significant necessity to develop new solutions to challenges unique to dense inner-city environments.

Results

Now in its finals stages - this project has successfully installed underground rail tunnels through a significant dense part of downtown Auckland. The project has moved into its streetscape phase where new challenges arise and we continue to be in support till the project's conclusion.
